Beer Review: Belgium Before I Black Out Edition

Beer #14: De Garre

Served: Draft, into a De Garre glass.

Pours: Gold

Smells: Bready

Tastes: You get some breadiness and a bit of alcohol, but it's very smooth. Here's the kicker though. This stuff is 12% ABV, and it hides it extremely well.

Price: This stuff costs €4.25 a glass. It is only available at De Garre, on De Garre street, which is literally an alley off a street in Bruges.

Overall: 9/10! There are many reasons to come to Bruges, and most of them are pretty buildings. This beer is just the excellent icing on the cake.

Beer 15: Pauwel Kwak

Served: Bottle, into the distinctive "coachman's glass".

Pours: Caramel Brown

Smell: Lighter bread than De Garre.

Taste: Malt, alcohol.

Cost: €3.90

Overall: 6/10. This is pretty good, but it had the misfortune to come after two De Garre's and a half pint of Jupiler. It's better than Jupiler, but is mostly notable for the unique glass it comes in. It was allegedly designed so that a horse and buggy driver could have a beer whole driving, but at 8.4% ABV, this is bullshit. Go see a glass of this, and spend your cash on De Garrw.
