Served: From a bottle into a shot glass.
Appearance: Pale green
Smell: Faintly of licorice
Taste: Absinthe is an anise liquor bottled at about 100 proof. As a result, it tastes like black licorice, if black licorice burned like hell when you swallowed it. I sipped it to experience the flavor. Shooting it would not have been pleasant.
Price: €5. A bit pricy, but you hardly ever see the stuff stateside, and when you do, it's a whole bottle, and it doesn't come cheap. It's also not worth owning an entire bottle.
Overall: 4/10. It's better than gin or vodka, but I would rather have some rum, tequila, or whiskey. However, if you've ever wondered how to combine your passions for black licorice and getting piss-drunk, this is how you do that.
One further note for anybody wanting to backpack through Europe and stop in Paris. On the Rue Mouffetard, there is a hostel called Young & Happy. I haven't seen the inside of it, but if you stay there, you have all the bread, cheese, wine, chocolate, crepes, fondue, and other gastronomic delights this place has to offer within stumbling distance of your lodgings. You should check to make sure it's not a dump before booking, but if it isn't, you will enjoy it.
